Flex Update Supports BMW & Mini MDG1 Control Units

An update to the Flex tool has introduced new capabilities specifically targeting the Bosch MDG1 control units utilized in the latest BMW and Mini models.

With this update, technicians can now interact with these control units using a pinout connection, eliminating the need to employ Boot Glitch mode for unlocking the units. This change is expected to enhance the programming process, providing a more efficient and secure method without the requirement to physically open the ECU.

The update facilitates full access to essential functions, including reading and writing internal flash memory, manipulating internal EEPROM, and performing complete backups. This streamlined approach aims to improve workflow efficiency and decrease the time needed for programming tasks.

Among the vehicles now supported by this protocol are the 2021 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe (G26) with a 2.0L 420d MHEV engine and the 2023 BMW X2-Series (U10) available in both sDrive and xDrive configurations. The introduction of this update marks a significant advancement in ECU programming for the recent generation of BMW and Mini vehicles.
